Tour begins with a narrated ride from Anchorage in route to the scenic Matanuska Valley. Learn about the rich gold mining and agricultural history of this fertile area. The driver/guide will share stories of mining days past, and also enlighten passengers on the massive vegetables produced in the valley annually. The day will include a stop at Williams Reindeer Farm is home to over 200 reindeer, the descendants of a herd brought from Russia in the 1890’s. The Musk Ox Farm is home to a unique domestication project, which began in 1954. Now a protected species, the Musk Ox Farm is an ideal place to observe and photograph these animals safely at close range. The grand finale will be a visit to an actual Iditarod Race champion’s kennel, to learn more about the lifestyle of an Iditarod dog musher. This four time Iditarod champion will charm and entertain guests with antics and stories of life on the trail. The tour will depart from/return to the downtown hotels. Boxed lunches will be provided.
